FIFA president Sepp Blatter believes Africa can produce the next FIFA president when new elections are held in February.

According to Blatter, Nigeria has the pedigree to improve FIFA. The embattled president also urged the football world to support Nigerian candidates who hope to succeed.

Former Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu first made his ambition known before ex international Segun Odegbami made his intentions to succeed Blatter known.

Blatter told a local Swiss radio station that Nigeria has a very rich history in football with great participation in all FIFA organized tournaments.

He said: “Africa can produce the next FIFA president, why not. Nigeria is an interesting football country which has participated in all FIFA competitions, winning the U-17 World cup four times and
doing well.

“Other continents should support Nigeria because of her pedigree. The world should give Nigeria a chance because she can bring a lot of positive  developments  to world football. “

CAF  is expected to meet in Cairo next week to discuss the candidacy of Kalu and Odegbami.

Other contenders include Michel Platini, the French president of European federation UEFA, South Korean Chung Mong-joon, a former Asian vice-president of FIFA as well as the old Brazilian World Cup star Zico and former Trinidad and Tobago international David Nakhid. The South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale is also considering a bid.
