– Rotimi Amaechi said he has suffered because of corruption accusations against him

– He said the success of any administration depends on the relationship between the executive and legislature

Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of Transport said he suffered a lot in the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the governor of Rivers state, Leadership reports.

Amaechi, the immediate past governor of Rivers state disclosed this yesterday, February 2, during a lecture titled “Legislature and Executive Partnership for Effective Performance,” at a retreat for the executive arms of Plateau State government held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic
Studies (NIPSS) Kuru in collaboration with Jos Business School and German International Corporation (GIZ).

According to him, he went through a lot in the hands of the anti-graft agency because of corruption accusation without any proof against him.

“I was harassed, though I fought my way through, they accused me of corruption, I suffered a lot, I suffered a lot about corruption. I don’t like money, I believe once you can feed, you don’t need money again, all those who accumulate are doing so to their detriment,” he said.

Amaechi also spoke on the relationship between the executive and legislature, which according to him determines the success of any administration.

He noted that the commissioners were the drivers of the synergy and cordiality and they must see the lawmakers as partners in progress.

The transport minister added that the commissioners must also have a high sense of regard for the legislature for a smooth sail in terms of administration.

Integrity Group (IG) recently called on the EFCC and Independent Corrupt Practices and other offences Commission (ICPC) to probe Amaechi. The group alleged that Amaechi embezzled over N70 billion Naira generated from secret sales of state owned assets when he was governor of the state.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has accused Amaechi of leaving behind a backlog of unpaid salaries of four months, eight months pension allowances and twelve months of teachers’ salaries unpaid. The government has asked him to account for what he did with over N3trillion he received throughout his eight years tenure.
