Some youths in Ekiti state under the aegis of Ekiti Kete Youths Forum want the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose to be probed.
The group, which is made up of Ekiti professionals across the federation at the weekend asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe Fayose’s administration, This Day reports.
It urged the EFCC to wade into the financial situation of Ekiti state and conduct financial auditing from October 16, 2014 till date.
The group in a statement by its director of publicity, Tope Idowu noted that since Fayose became governor in 2014, the state has been in the news for the wrong reasons.
According to the youth forum, Fayose had neglected his responsibility as a governor of a state and unofficially assumed the responsibility of the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The youths accused the governor of not creating any meaningful job for youths in the state since he assumed office, thereby increasing the level of unemployment in the state.
It further accused Governor Fayose of not paying the arrears and salaries of the workers even after he got bailout from the federal government.
“The fact that Ekiti state is only a civil service state, and the civil servants are not being duly paid, businesses are not moving, yet Fayose is less concerned about their welfare,” the statement read.
The forum asked Fayose to explain how he spent a bailout of N9.6 billion the state government received from the federal government in 2014.
The youth group expressed worry over the Fayose’s attitude in the House of Assembly while presenting the 2016 budget, saying it was a reflection of “Fayose’s lack of regard and respect for the legislative arm since he resumed office in October 2014.”
According to the youths, Fayose’s insubordination called for serious condemnation across the state.
“After critical rumination over these reasons, we are of great concern over humiliation that Fayose’s style of leadership has brought upon the people of Ekiti within his short time in office,” the statement read.
Governor Fayose is one politician who never gets tired of criticising President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress. According to him, he will continue to criticize any government in Nigeria because it is a democratic country and democracy is about opposition and the government in power.
