One person was left dead and others injured amid the celebration that ushered the new Ooni of Ife into the town on Wednesday, October 28.
Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was appointed as the new traditional ruler of Ile Ife on Monday, October 26 barely three months after the demise of the former Ooni, Oba Sijuwade Okunade.
The arrival of the new Ooni attracted a large crowd at the Ife tollgate as well wishers flocked to the streets to welcome his triumphal entrance.
Daily Trust reports that security was supervised by the commissioner of police in the state and the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. In spite of the heavy security presence, the crowd was difficult to manage as drivers drove recklessly.
A man was reportedly left dead after an accident while several people were injured. According to
Daily Trust, the unidentified dead man was left by the side of the road in an attempt to convey the injured to the hospital.
The family house of the new Ooni at Agbedegbede was manned by security personnel as people flocked to the place for entertainment.
The former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was also at Ile Ife to pay homage to the new Ooni.
