The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, may have entered a new phase in its ongoing probe of the $2.1 billion arms procurement fund if the detention of the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Olusola Amosu (retd.) is anything to go by.
It was learnt that Amosu was detained at the EFCC headquarters since Wednesday and is yet to be released (at the time of publishing this report).
Recall that Amosu was among 17 former and serving military chiefs President Muhammadu Buhari
gave the EFCC approval to go after based on recommendations of a committee he established to audit procurement of arms and equipment in the Armed Forces and Defence sector from 2007 to 2015.
The committee specifically accused Air Marshal Amosu (retd) of engaging in acts that were not only “misleading and unpatriotic” but of shortchanging the country in procurement deals for attack helicopters and other equipment for the Nigerian Air Force.
