Two female suicide bombers suspected of belonging to the Boko Haram sect have killed three Nigerians in a truck full of refugees.

The Punch reports that the attack took place in a town in Cameroon’s far north region on Monday, November 9.

According to military sources, the bombers’ target was a nearby mosque in Fotokol. While the first bomb went off during a security check, it is still unclear if the second bomber detonated her explosive device or whether she was killed first by the military.

Boko Haram militants have killed thousands of people and displaced many from their communities in
the northeastern part of Nigeria.

In 2014, neighbouring countries, including Cameroon, joined forces against the group as its offensive spread beyond Nigeria’s borders.

In July 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari visited his Cameroonian counterpart, Paul Biya. During the meeting, both leaders discussed the issue of the Boko Haram insurgency ravaging the countries and pledged to improve security cooperation along their border in a bid to tackle the insurgency.
Meanwhile, another neighbouring country Chad has declared a state of emergency in the Lake Chad region.

The decision came after the terrorists carried out an attack in Ngouboua village in Chad near the Nigerian border. In a suspected suicide bomb attack at least two people were killed, while 14 were injured.
