It seems our Nollywood stars are going places and are appreciated outside their homeland.
I t has been gathered that Gambian President, Prof Dr Sheik AJ Jammeh showed appreciation for the Nollywood industry by presenting plots of land to number of Nigerian actors, among them the Aki and Paw Paw duo, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, Patience Ozokwor and Pastor Eucharia Anunobi.Others are Francis Duru, Segun Arinze, Monalisa Chinda, Ejike Asiegbu, Tony Umez, Ngozi Ezeonu, Kanayo O Kanayo, Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya) Harry B Anyanwu, Rukiat Masud and Jackie Appiah.
The land presentation was done on Saturday, October 11, by Vice President Dr Mrs Isatou Njie-Saidy, at the Presidential palace in Banjul.
During the presentation, Njie-Saidy said: “The President said as part of his belief in pan africanism, our values and heritage which Nollywood has helped to showcase on the world stage. He said he’s rewarding and encouraging the stars to come and make the Gambia part of their own.”
If I recall correctly, parts of 'Mirror Boy' was shot in Gambia. Perhaps this will encourage Nollywood incursion into the Gambian movie market.
