Champions League Results: Ronaldo’s Hat-Trick Sinks Galatasaray in Istanbul.

The European Champions League took centre stage
across Europe last night with eight matches played
throughout the continent. A total of 30 goals were
scored on Matchday 1 as the well-paid Cristiano
Ronaldo netted a hat-trick against Didier Drogba’s
Turkish club Galatasaray.


Galatasray 1 vs. Real Madrid 6.
Ronaldo moved into the number four slot of the
European Cup all-time goalscorer after netting a
hat-trick against Galatasaray in Istanbul. Gareth Bale
had his European debut for the Los Blancos, coming
in for Real’s opening goal scorer Isco, in a game
which saw coach Carlo Ancelotti become the only
manager to have took charge of 6 clubs in Europe.
Karim Benzema scored twice as the La Liga giants
cruised to the top of the Group B table.

FC Copenhagen 1 vs. Juventus 1.

In Denmark, Juventus came from behind to draw 11
against FC Copenhagen in the other group B
encounter. Nicolai Jorgensen gave Copenhagen the
lead in the 14th minute before forward Fabio
Quagliarella leveled for the ‘Old Lady of Turin’ in the
second-half with a left-footed finish.

Bayern Munich 3 vs. CSKA Moscow 0.

Defending champions Bayern got off well against
Russian champions CSKA at the Allianz Arena.
David Alaba’s stunning free-kick in the opening five
minutes heralded the return of the champions for
their title defence in style as Mario Mandzukic and
Dutch winger Arjen Robben also scored for the
Bavarian giants.

Victoria Plzen 0 vs. Manchester City 3.

It was a good night in Europe for Manchester City
which recorded a comfortable victory over Czech
side Viktoria Plzen to keep pace with Bayern in
Group D. Goals from Eden Dzeko, Yaya Toure and
Sergio Aguero earned Manuel Pellegrini’s side clean
sheet in the opening round of Europe’s elite
competition.

Manchester United 4 vs. Bayern Leverkusen 2.

Wayne Rooney scored a brace for the Premier
League champions in their victory over German side
Bayern Leverkusen at Old Trafford. Robin van Persie
and Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia both hit one each
past Sami Hypia’s team. Leverkusen captain Simon
Rolfes and Toprak scored for the visitors.

Real Sociedad 0 vs. Shakter Donetsk 2.
In the other Group A match, Brazilian midfielder Alex
Teixeira scored both goals for Shakter as they
recorded a 2-0 win over Sociedad in San Sebastian.
