The final fixtures which will decide the five African
representatives for Brazil 2014 have been drawn, and
there are some interesting encounters ahead
The 2014 World Cup final qualifying round draw for
Africa took place in Cairo, Egypt on Monday, with the 10
countries remaining in the qualifiers discovering who
their opponents would be.
There are only five qualifying spots open for the
remaining national teams in Africa, as they play their
opponents over two legs to decide the victor and
qualifier for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 10 teams were divided into two pots ahead of the
draw. Pot A contained the five seeded teams based on
their latest Fifa ranking. This included Cote d'Ivoire,
Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia.
Pot B contained the remaining sides, which included
Egypt, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Senegal and Burkina Faso.
The biggest gasp of the draw proceedings was reserved
for the moment when Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal were
drawn against each other, setting up a very fierce West
African tie.
Other interesting clashes include Nigeria facing Ethiopia,
and Ghana taking on Egypt.
The teams will play home and away fixtures on October
11-15 and November 15-19 to determine the five
finalists, who will then represent the African continent in
Brazil.
The Final African Qualifying Fixtures for the 2014 World
Cup are as follows:
Cote d'Ivoire v Senegal
Ethiopia v Nigeria
Tunisia v Cameroon
Ghana v Egypt
Algeria v Burkina Faso
