Unconfirmed reports reaching Naij.com say that President Muhammadu Buhari has made a secret appointment of the former permanent secretary in the federal Ministry of Works, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, as a private secretary.

The Guardian reports that the appointment, while yet to be announced formally, has been making waves in society as Baba-Ahmed comes from the northwest, the same zone Buhari hails from.

However, Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, said: “We have not been informed of the appointment of a private secretary.”

Baba-Ahmed had reportedly been named private secretary to Buhari after the two-day presidential
retreat for the incoming ministers that finished on Friday, November 6.

Separately from the offices of the president and his vice, the offices of the chief of staff to the president, and the private secretary are believed to be other powerful positions.

The major appointments by the leader of the nation since he took office on May 29 caused controvery across the political sphere for their supposed lopsidedness.

So far, there have been no key appointees of southeast and southwest natives into Buhari’s ‘kitchen’ cabinet, a move widely seen by Nigerians from the two zones as a careful attempt to sideline their people, an accusation strongly rejected by the presidency.

Meanwhile, President Buhari is set to finally inaugurate his ministers on November 11, Wednesday.

The president yesterday swore in the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and five commissioners with an assurance that he would not interfere with the work of the commission.
